Health & Safety Executive - updated guidance for workplaces

Please see the important updates from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) below.

Information on reporting an outbreak - Action Cards
The Joint Biosecurity Centre has developed Action Cards which reflect the latest advice on how to identify, manage and report a COVID-19 outbreak.

The cards are a useful visual checklist for businesses and bring together guidance and useful contacts to support your organisation’s planning. This will help businesses and other organisations work effectively with their local public health teams. It applies only in England. Go to the Public Health England website to download the Action Cards

Cleaning your workplace
As an employer, you must protect people from harm. This includes taking reasonable steps to protect your workers and others from coronavirus.

You may need to increase how often and how thoroughly you clean, as well as cleaning surfaces that you do not normally clean. We have published guidance which will help you to clean your workplace to reduce risk. Go to our guidance on cleaning your workplace.

If you are cleaning because of a known or suspected case of COVID-19 in your workplace you should follow the guidance on GOV.UK.

Disinfecting premises using fog, mist, vapour or ultraviolet (UV) systems
Fog, mist, vapour or UV treatments may be suitable options to help control the spread of coronavirus by cleaning and disinfecting larger spaces or rooms.

Any use of these treatments for these purposes should form part of your COVID-19 risk assessment. Users must be competent and properly trained. Guidance on disinfecting using fog, mist, vapour or ultraviolet (UV) systems.

Cleaning, hygiene and hand sanitiser
We have produced guidance on cleaning, hygiene and the user of hand sanitiser in the workplace. This includes advice to help your workers practice good handwashing technique, remind them to cough/sneeze into their arm and avoid touching their faces. Guidance on cleaning, hygiene and hand sanitiser.

Find out how to make your workplace COVID-secure
Cleaning is just one aspect in making your workplace COVID-secure. GOV.UK has guides to help you work safely during the coronavirus pandemic. They cover different types of work in England.

Many businesses operate more than one type of workplace, such as an office, factory and fleet of vehicles. You may need to use more than one of these guides as you think through what you need to do to keep people safe. Go to the guides on GOV.UK.

Separate guidance on working safely during coronavirus is available for Wales and Scotland
